Last week we visited the Crabtree in Camberley
I I was rather disappointed when the bar staff member called out to me in front of everyone that “we don’t allow dogs.” I had my assistance dog with me, and I had already mentioned this during my pre-booking. It is my legal right to bring her with me. I felt that the situation was handled unprofessionally, and it was only after another staff member confirmed with the manager, Kirsty, that it was indeed acceptable that we were shown to our table.
Once seated, we did not receive any communication from the staff. We had to figure out how to order using the app, and even when the food was served, there was no conversation. The staff simply placed the food on the table and walked away without saying a word. It seemed as though the staff members were not particularly enthusiastic about being there.
In terms of physical accessibility, the entrance had a heavy and narrow manual door that required both sides to be opened in order to get through. This made it difficult for someone to enter independently.
We eventually located the accessible toilet, but there was absolutely no signage indicating its location or even the fact that there was one available.
While the entrance and pub were level entry, accessibility encompasses more than just physical aspects. It also includes the overall customer experience, which, in this case, was rather lacking.
